The Best Outdoor Dining Patios in Placer County

Est Reading Time: 6 min

There are restaurants where the food is memorable. Then there are restaurants where you find yourself staying just a little longer because the setting is every bit as enjoyable as the meal. Fortunately, Placer County has no shortage of places like that. One of my favorite things about living here is that we actually get to enjoy the outdoors. Spring evenings are perfect. Summer nights linger well past sunset. Fall brings crisp air and golden hillsides. Even many winter afternoons are comfortable enough to enjoy lunch outside.

Given the choice, I’ll take a patio over an indoor table almost every time. Whether you’re looking for a quiet brunch, a date night under the trees, or a rooftop dinner with friends, these are some of the outdoor patios I find myself returning to again and again.

High-Hand Café, Loomis

If you’ve never been to High-Hand, don’t just plan for lunch. Plan to spend the afternoon. Tucked inside the beautiful High-Hand Nursery, the café is surrounded by towering trees, colorful gardens, fountains, and winding paths that make it feel more like a destination than a restaurant. The patio is peaceful, shaded, and somehow manages to make you forget you’re only minutes from town. After your meal, grab a coffee and wander through the nursery or browse the artisan shops. It’s one of those places where there’s no rush to leave. I’ve introduced several people to High-Hand over the years, and almost every one of them has asked the same question. “How did I not know this place existed?” That’s about the highest compliment a local hidden gem can receive.

Farmhaus, Granite Bay

Farmhaus has quietly become one of my favorite places when I’m looking for a relaxed lunch or dinner that still feels a little special. The patio sits beneath mature shade trees and has an intimate atmosphere that’s perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a slower-paced date night. I appreciate that the menu changes with the seasons. Rather than trying to do everything, they focus on fresh ingredients and well-executed dishes. Pair that with a glass of wine outside, and you’ve got a meal that’s hard to beat. It’s refined without feeling formal, and that’s part of its charm.

Auburn Alehouse, Old Town Auburn

There’s something about eating outside in historic Auburn that never gets old. The patio at Auburn Alehouse overlooks Old Town and offers one of the best spots in the city for people watching. Whether you’re stopping in after exploring the local shops or meeting friends for dinner, the atmosphere always feels energetic without being overwhelming. Their house-brewed beers are excellent, but honestly, even if beer isn’t your thing, the patio alone is worth the visit. Some places are all about the food, others are about the experience, this one gives you both.

The Station Public House, Auburn

If your ideal patio includes dogs, live music, yard games, and a cold local beer, you’ll probably feel right at home here. The Station has a laid-back backyard feel that makes it easy to spend an entire afternoon without realizing how much time has passed. Families gather here. Cyclists stop in after rides. Friends meet after work. Kids play while everyone else enjoys another round and another conversation. It’s casual, welcoming, and exactly the kind of place every community should have.

kitchen747, Roseville

Rooftop patios are surprisingly rare around here, which makes kitchen747 stand out. The rooftop seating creates a fun atmosphere for happy hour or dinner, especially as the sun begins to set over West Roseville. Down below you’ll find outdoor games, plenty of seating, and a lively energy that’s perfect for larger groups. Whether you’re celebrating something or simply meeting friends for dinner, it’s a place that feels just a little different from the usual neighborhood restaurant.

Oak Leaf Café, Granite Bay

Oak Leaf Café doesn’t always make lists of the area’s best patios, but I think it deserves more attention. The outdoor seating overlooks a quiet pond and creates one of the most relaxing brunch settings in Granite Bay. It’s the kind of place where coffee lasts a little longer, breakfast turns into conversation, and nobody seems to be watching the clock. Sometimes that’s exactly what a weekend should feel like.

LBB Gastropub & Smokehouse, Loomis

There’s something about barbecue and outdoor dining that just goes together. LBB Gastropub & Smokehouse has built a loyal following thanks to its smoked meats, welcoming atmosphere, and comfortable outdoor seating. It’s not fancy. It doesn’t try to be. Instead, it’s simply a great neighborhood restaurant where the food is consistently good and the patio makes you want to stay for one more drink after dinner.

Kathrin’s Biergarten, Rocklin

Every once in a while it’s fun to skip the ordinary. Kathrin’s Biergarten brings a little bit of Germany to Rocklin with authentic beers, giant pretzels, sausages, schnitzel, and a lively outdoor biergarten. It’s a fun place to gather with friends, especially on warm evenings when the patio fills with conversation and laughter. If you’ve never been, it’s worth adding to your list simply because it’s different from almost everything else in the area.

Il Fornaio, Roseville

When the occasion calls for something a little more elegant, Il Fornaio rarely disappoints. Their outdoor patio at the Fountains at Roseville offers fireplaces, fountains, and an atmosphere that feels just upscale enough without being intimidating. It’s one of my favorite places for anniversaries, celebrations, or simply slowing down over a great Italian dinner and a bottle of wine. On a cool evening, it’s easy to forget you’re in the middle of a shopping center.

Sometimes the Patio Is the Best Part

I’ve realized over the years that some of my favorite meals weren’t necessarily the ones with the fanciest food. They’re the ones where nobody was checking the time. Where another round of drinks turned into dessert. Where the conversation kept going long after everyone had finished eating. Where the patio lights came on and nobody wanted to be the first person to leave. That’s really what outdoor dining is about. It’s about slowing down. It’s about enjoying where you are, who you’re with, and appreciating everything that makes living in Placer County such a privilege. Whether you’re overlooking the gardens at High-Hand, enjoying a rooftop sunset in Roseville, or sharing dinner in historic Auburn, there are countless places to enjoy a meal outside that remind you why this region is so special. So the next time the weather is nice, skip the table inside. You just might discover that the best seat in the house has been waiting for you outside.

Did I miss one of your favorites? I’d love to hear about it. Send me a message or connect with me on social media. I’m always looking for another great patio to add to the list.
